Cymar regularly publishes case studies that
demonstrate how our IT solutions have created tangible business benefits
and a significant return on investment for our clients.
Following some of our project case studies
have been included here.
(A) Boxgrove Primary School
Date: Case Study 2006-10-26
Cymar Delivers
– a new way forward.
Boxgrove Primary School’s IT needs
was previously supported by Greenwich Education Department. The school
received support on an adhoc call out basis. However, the response times
to the school’s support needs were not to a satisfactory level
and they were not provided with any ongoing technology support and strategic
planning. A change in local education budgetary rules allowed Boxgrove
to review it’s IT and technology needs and utilise local suppliers
to meet its needs.
In discussion with Boxgrove, Cymar quickly understood
that they required:
• Long term strategic IT support;
• Regular visits by a highly qualified and dedicated IT Engineer,
who could:
o Maintain and expand their existing network infrastructure
o Liaise with staff regularly about their ongoing IT needs.
• The construction and equipping of a new ITC suite within their
allowed budget
• Create and implement a classroom Smart board installation plan.
• All to be provided within a very tight annual IT budget.
As part of its talks with local suppliers, Boxgrove Primary School was
referred to Cymar in 2005. They both quickly came to the conclusion
that there was a good match between what Boxgrove needed and the value
that Cymar could provide. Cymar was engaged by Boxgrove in 2005 and
commenced working with the school in April 2006 at the beginning of
their financial year. In response to Boxgove’s needs, Cymar was
able to:
• Construct and equip a new dedicated, computer
education suite;
• Upgrade the existing school office computers and network;
• Provide a fixed cost maintenance and support contract such that
Boxgrove could clearly manage its limited IT budget;
• Provide bi-weekly engineer site visits;
• Provide a 4 hour response call out during school opening hours;
and
• Provide on-going technology advice and support to ensure that
Boxgrove could plan and manage ICT education commitments and school
administration needs.
As a result of Boxgrove’s decision to work with Cymar, they received
IT and Technology equipment advice, installation and support on a timely
basis, which really is “Top of the Class”.
(B) ANC Couriers
Date: Case Study 2005-02-10
Cymar helps client use CCTV not only to enhance
security but also to improve its business operations.
ANC Couriers is a large high profile courier company
which operates nationwide. As a courier company, they have a huge amount
of parcels passing through their depots every day which is why security
is very important and effective CCTV systems are vital.
By mid 2004, ANC were frustrated with their outdated
CCTV system and turned to Cymar Electronics Ltd for help. Cymar evaluated
ANC’s CCTV system and compared them to ANC’s needs. Together,
the two companies concluded that the current system lacked many of the
updated functions required by ANC; for example all four sites had separate
systems, these all operated on a stand-alone basis, and these systems
could not be managed remotely. The camera equipment itself also lacked
the PTZ (Pan, Filter & Zoom) function which is a necessity in modern
CCTV systems.
ANC wanted a system where they could manage, access
and monitor all four sites from a central location in order to maintain
high levels of security all day and everyday (24/7). They also required
a very high level of PTZ to track individual parcels, powerful enough
to be able to read down to the barcode on individual parcels.
In 2004, over the course of three months, Cymar
Electronics provided and installed the CCTV security systems for all
four of ANC Couriers’ London depots. In terms of maintenance,
Cymar set up a remote access system so that if any problems arose, they
would be able to resolve it remotely.
Cymar took a flexible approach to ANC’s business
challenge and completed the design and installation of a new system
one site at a time thus keeping business disruption to a minimum. Finally,
Cymar integrated all four site systems into a central system and provided
operational training to all of ANC’s security staff, whilst alos
providing remote support to maintain the system if any problems arise.
Therefore, through their flexible and solution-oriented approach, Cymar
have been able to provide ANC with the best and most up to date equipment
to meet the high security standards required by such a high profile
courier company.
(C) Westminster Adult Educational
Services (WAES)
Case Study 2006-11-15
Cymar Installs New Multi-Site Network Facilities With Minimum Interruptions
to Ongoing Operations
Westminster Adult Educational Services (WAES) despite the fact that
WAES had their own in-house facilities, Cymar has executed and maintained
the upkeep of the three sites. In addition, given the three different
sites were used by existing educational facilities, working close with
WAES, each site had its own network individuality and to connect all
three would require redesigning a structural base. Finally, WAES wanted
to upgrade its existing network facilities across the three sites whilst
still allowing teaching to continue and ensuring continued access and
functioning of legacy computer equipment.
In discussion with WAES, Cymar quickly understood
that they required:
• Utilisation of existing equipment and network
infrastructure wherever possible;
• Installation of a simple and easy to understand network facility
• Advice on third party service providers i.e. broadband internet
providers
• Regular visits by a highly qualified and dedicated IT Engineer,
who could:
o Maintain and expand their existing network infrastructure; and
o Liaise with and train staff regularly about their ongoing IT needs.
• The construction, equipping and networking of a multi-site network
teaching facility within their allowed budget;
• Sourcing and installing software and printers at educational
prices
• Networked file sharing and printing facilities
• Installation of interactive Smart Boards for teachers to show
presentations and teaching skills to their pupils.
In the latter half of 2005, Cymar, through its extensive network of
contacts, became aware of WAES’ needs. Cymar then contacted WAES
and they both quickly came to the conclusion that there was a good match
between what WAES needed and the value that Cymar could provide. Cymar
was engaged by WAES shortly thereafter and the project commenced in
November 2005. In response to WAES’ needs, Cymar was able to:
• Install and equip three networked education
suites, including the installation of Smart Boards in each;
• Utilise, where possible, existing IT equipment;
• Provide a fixed cost maintenance and support contract such that
WAES could clearly manage its limited IT budget;
• Installed the new network, working around existing usage, ensuring
minimum interruptions to ongoing classes.
• Provide an 8 hour response call out during school opening hours;
and
• Provide on-going technology advice and support to ensure that
WAES plans and manages its ICT needs.
As a result of WAES’ decision to work with Cymar, they received
1st class service and IT equipment advice and installation. This was
delivered at a highly competitive rate and was delivered within time
and budget. Cymar created and executed an installation plan that ensured
minimum disruption to the ongoing classes such that they could continue
to use the existing teaching computing facilities whilst the new network
facility was installed.
